The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a major step towards making urban transport cleaner, safer, and greener. Under this initiative, private operators and organizations will now be entrusted with the responsibility of running electric buses in two major municipal corporations of the state—Kanpur and Lucknow. The operation will be carried out under the Net Contract Mode, ensuring affordable, reliable, and comfortable public transport facilities for citizens.

As part of this project, tenders have been invited for the supply, operation, and maintenance of electric buses on 10 routes each in Kanpur and Lucknow. Each route will have a minimum of 10 electric buses. Operators can bid for one or more routes; however, two operators will not be allowed to operate on the same route.

Officials here on Thursday said the entire bidding process will be conducted through e-tendering. The last date for submission of bids is September 30, 2025, up to 2:00 PM.

This initiative by the Directorate of Urban Transport, Uttar Pradesh, will not only make public commuting more convenient but will also promote green mobility across the state. The operation of electric buses will play a vital role in reducing pollution, encouraging the use of clean energy, and improving traffic management in urban areas.
